Nighty Night

About

Through my job at Joint, I was lucky enough to get the opportunity to work on “Nighty Night", a short film directed by Matt Porter. The film follows a man named Tim (played by Chris Gethard), trying to fall asleep with the help of a sleep technician (played by Zach Cherry).

Towards the end of the film, the technician tells Tim a bed-time story in an attempt to get him to fall asleep. This triggers an animated sequence in which Tim is an owl that decides to stay up and explore the forest during the day. He meets a small cast of woodland creatures that I was able to bring to life.

Since many of the characters were never on screen for very long at a time, I got to explore using different tricks and methods for 2D character rigging. I also had a lot of fun working with various textures to create a more organic and hand-drawn feel.

Since a lot of my work these days usually comprises of collections of many small and short elements, it was a refreshing experience to work on a longer-form animation. I’m very excited to see it all come together and add such a nice contribution to an already great short film.
